Digital Transformation in Public Purpose Work: In Collaboration with McKinsey & Company

Challenger Seminar Series: Digital Transformation in Public Purpose Work

On 5 March 2020, we were delighted to host our second Challenger Seminar Series. With a full room of public purpose workers, we heard from two expert speakers on the topic of Digital transformation in public purpose work, Brant Carson and Seckin Ungur. Both Brant and Seckin have worked with public purpose organisations to bring digital transformation to life, and undoubtedly inspired attendees to embrace and tackle transformation within their own contexts.

This Challenger Seminar was delivered in partnership with McKinsey & Co.

IPAA Queensland members can watch the entire event recording on the members portal.

About Seckin Ungur:

Seckin supports clients on delivering major government transformations, with a focus on improving citizen outcomes and organisational culture. She is particularly passionate about working with governments to drive education and workforce transitions in the new era of skill requirements. Seckin also leads much of McKinsey Australia’s work on education reform.

Examples of her recent client work include the following:

  • supporting a large Commonwealth service-delivery agency on developing a transformation roadmap, including a future workforce strategy and capability-building framework
  • designing and helping implement a major K-12 education transformation project for a state government to drive improvement in student outcomes
  • developing skills and capability strategy for a government department undergoing citizen-centric service-delivery transformation
  • leading the review of small and medium-size enterprise policy for a state government
  • supporting a review of the Australian workforce using the McKinsey Global Institute’s future-of-work model
  • shaping a culture-transformation initiative for a major VET provider, with demonstrated uplift in organisational health
  • supporting a major university to improve top team effectiveness

Seckin has recently published research on automation, jobs, and the future of work. She also has a strong interest in social policy, in particular the reform of the child-protection system and reducing re-offending.

Prior to joining McKinsey, Seckin worked in the Australian public sector for more than 15 years as head of strategy for a dedicated job-creation agency governed by a private-sector board, in the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet in senior leadership roles overseeing the justice and health portfolios, and in the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
